České pekárny United Bakeries, které vyrábí pečivo pod značkami Odkolek, Delta či Cerea, ovládla pekárenská skupina Penam přes nákup jediného akcionáře, společnosti UB Holding. Tato společnost patřila lucemburské rodinné firmě Moulins de Kleinbettingen. Firma Moulins de Kleinbettingen dříve odkoupila United Bakeries od českých zakladatelů, bratrů Paříkových, kteří stáli za vznikem druhé největší české pekárenské skupiny.
Pekárenská skupina Penam s tržním podílem okolo 30 % zaujímá pozici lídra na českém trhu s pečivem. Dvojkou na trhu je právě United Bakeries s odhadovaným tržním podílem 15 %. Akvizicí získá Penam, respektive společnost Agrofert, 45% podíl na českém trhu s pečivem. Akvizici nyní posoudí Úřad pro ochranu hospodářské soutěže.
„Jsme rádi, že jsme dosáhli dohody o spojení United Bakeries s naší společností. Podle našeho názoru je to nutný krok k zachování dlouholeté tradice české pekárenské výroby v prostředí velmi náročného a konkurenčního trhu. Doufáme, že tímto krokem budeme schopni zajistit dlouhodobou perspektivu obou společností,“ sdělil předseda představenstva Penam Jaroslav Kurčík. Cenu transakce společnost Penam nezveřejnila.
Společnost Agrofert, do které patří pekárny Penam, usilovala o nákup United Bakeries již v roce 2010. Na zálohách tehdy zaplatil Agrofert United Bakeries sto milionů korun. Plánovaný nákup ale přerušil slovenský antimonopolní úřad, přestože český Úřad pro ochranu hospodářské soutěže akvizici schválil.
